Alexandria City Council to hold public hearing on preliminary budget – Alexandria Echo Press

ALEXANDRIA — At the Sept.11 Alexandria City Council meeting, City Administrator Marty Schultz told the council about upcoming meetings:

  • The council will hold a public hearing about its 2024 preliminary budget and tax levy on Monday, Sept. 25 at 7:15 p.m.
  • A joint meeting of the council and Douglas County Board is set for Monday, Oct. 9 in the city council chambers.
  • Members of the local taxes advisory task force began meeting in August. Staff is following their progress and has talked to the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities about the possibility of providing input at a future task force meeting.

Following are other items from the Sept. 11 meeting that were not included in other council stories.

The council approved a new 2023 tobacco license from Midwest Tobacco and Vapor, Inc, doing business as Alexandria Smoke Shop Plus at 630 Broadway.

The applicant, Khader Safi, submitted the required certificate of liability insurance.

One person spoke during the public comment period at the start of the meeting.

Alan Roebke of Alexandria said he wanted to give the council one last thought about providing jet services at the Alexandria Airport. He said he met with Airport Manager Kreg Anderson and talked about extending Runway 422 by 700 feet and widening it 25 feet. This would provide jets with more room for take-offs and safer landings, Roebke said.

Roebke also said he talked to a plane owner who has been taking people on flights from Alexandria to Hawaii.
